- 2 cups flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoons salt
- 5-6 tablespoons cold butter, cut into pieces
- 3/4 cup milk
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Whisk flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Drop in butter and cut in with pastry blender or hands. Add milk and mix just until most of the dry ingredients are moistened. Gather the dough into a ball and knead it in the bowl, pressing any loose pieces into the dough.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. With a lightly floured rolling pin, roll out or pat the dough until 1/2 inch thick. Cut out round biscuits and place onto ungreased cookie sheet. For browner tops, brush the biscuit tops with milk or melted butter. Bake until the biscuits are golden brown on the top and a deeper golden brown on the bottom, 10-12 minutes. Serve hot.
