New-Fashioned Hymns: O Come, All Ye Faithful

Christmas songs sometimes get overlooked. For a long time, I got a little bit annoyed by singing them during the Christmas season at church. See my 2014 post… it’s not a new problem. Same old words sung so many times. Blerg. But you guys, over the years, my tune has changed. I don’t dread this season of singing anymore. That’s because if I really think about the words I’m singing, it doesn’t take long for me to get overwhelmed. The power of Jesus’ selfless act of joining us on the earth as a baby, born to die for me… it just gets me. I can’t help but adore Him for his sacrifice. So a new-fashioned hymn has been born, because this song has some power in its lyrics. It spurs JOY inside me, even in the midst of a crazy life.

O come, all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye, o come ye, to Bethlehem
Come and behold him
Born the king of angels

To everyone who continues the faith walk:
Come here! Be filled with joy! We are victorious!
Remember what you’ve heard has happened in David’s city?
Feast your eyes on the promise:
A baby above all others; the king has arrived!

O come, let us adore him
O come, let us adore him
O come, let us adore him
Christ the Lord

Draw near and delight in him
Come close and cherish him
Fall in and fall for him
This is the Christ, our Lord!

Sing, choirs of angels
Sing in exultation
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above
Glory to God
All glory in the highest

Everyone sing praise!
Get rowdy!
Hear the deafening crowd in heaven!
God is renowned and takes the cake,
His splendor cannot be amplified any further.

O come, let us adore him
O come, let us adore him
O come, let us adore him
Christ the Lord

Draw near and delight in him
Come close and cherish him
Fall in and fall for him
This is the Christ, our Lord!

Yea, Lord we greet thee
Born this happy morning
Jesus, to thee be all glory given
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing

With our own eyes, we can see you.
Now joy fills our hearts!
We esteem this baby above all, because
What God has said
Has come true: Jesus is here with us!

O come, let us adore him
O come, let us adore him
O come, let us adore him
Christ the Lord

Draw near and delight in him
Come close and cherish him
Fall in and fall for him
This is the Christ, our Lord!
